Operating Room Data
MedMining offers detailed Operating Room data. Geisinger's menu of procedures performed includes, but is not limited to, everything from routine hip replacement to CABG surgery to complicated kidney, liver, and pancreas transplants, and the list continues. Our Operating Room data includes linked device and manufacturer records, anesthesia score, laterality, times (arrival to Operating Room, first incision, final closing, etc.), and much more.

Comprehensive Tobacco Use Data
MedMining offers detailed Tobacco Use data including status (current, passive, quit, never, etc.), tobacco type (cigarettes, cigars, chew, pipe), years used, and packs per day. The counts below provide a snapshot of comprehensive data for patients indicated as Current Tobacco Users.

Of Current Tobacco Users:
 1. 74% have a valid tobacco type available.*
       a. 90% indicate cigarette use. 
       b. 6% indicate chew use.
       c. 3% indicate cigar use.
       d. 3% indicate snuff use.
       e. 1% indicate pipe use.
              *A patient may indicate multiple tobacco type uses.

  2. 66% have the number of years using tobacco available.
       a. Tobacco users have been using tobacco, on average, for 20 years.

  3. 79% have the number of packs per day available.
       a. On average, tobacco users have been using 86% of a pack of tobacco per day.

Comprehensive Diabetes Data
MedMining can provide Diabetes data which is routinely ordered, in part, due to reminder alerts built into the Diabetic Bundled Order Set within Geisinger's Electronic Health Record (EHR). Alerts are built into the Diabetic Bundled Order Set to remind patients and providers when it is time to evaluate many of the core quality measures necessary for monitoring Diabetes, such as laboratory values (HbA1C, Lipids, Basic Metabolic Panel, etc.) and annual Eye and Foot Exams.

Women’s Health Data
MedMining offers comprehensive Women’s Health data. Geisinger’s menu of Women’s Health services offers care ranging from delivering a healthy baby to treating complicated pregnancies, infertility, menopause, cancer, and more. With over 2,700 deliveries performed annually, our Women’s Health data includes birth outcomes such as delivery type (C-section, Vaginal, etc.), gestational age, labor length, birth weight, infant sex, Apgar Score (1 vs. 5 minutes after birth), anesthesia type (local, general, spinal, etc.), final outcome (preterm, abortion, etc.), and more. We also have the ability to link mother and child records for deliveries performed at Geisinger.

In addition to collecting detailed pregnancy episode data, a woman’s Last Menstrual Period (LMP) status (premenarche, menarche, hysterectomy, postmenopausal, etc.) is routinely collected at each OB/GYN office visit.  Contact Us to learn more about our Women’s Health data.


Comprehensive Blood Pressure Data
MedMining offers comprehensive blood pressure data. Clinicians routinely capture blood pressure data at office visits for patients over the age of 3. September 2009

HER2 Data
MedMining now offers HER2 data for your next Breast Cancer study. Following the NCCN, CAP, and ASCO guidelines for HER2 testing, we have HER2 data on over 1,400 distinct patients. Historically the test was only performed on patients with invasive ductal or lobular cancers being surgically treated here at Geisinger. However, we recently started performing the test on insitu cases as well due to clinical interest. Contact Us to learn more about our HER2 data.


FRAX® Data
MedMining now offers FRAX® data. As part of our manual electronic chart review process, we have the ability to extract FRAX® scores dating back to when the World Health Organization’s tool first became available in 2008. Coupled with our longitudinal DXA data, FRAX® scores can be a powerful compliment to your next osteoporosis study. Contact us to learn more about our FRAX® data.


EEG Study Published
Clinical Neurophysiology recently published a study, The EEG as an independent indicator of mortality and healthcare utilization, which used MedMining data. EEG results from Geisinger’s neurology database were merged with core EHR data, such as medications, diagnoses, and numerous neurology-specific laboratory values. Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) Claim Data
MedMining now offers core clinical data linked to pharmacy, medical, and hospital claims data for Geisinger patients who also carry GHP. Approximately 30% of active Geisinger patients carry GHP and 270,000+ of those same patients currently have at least 12 months of continuous GHP enrollment.  Mortality Data
MedMining offers mortality data which is reconciled monthly against the Social Security Death Index. Possible values for mortality status include Alive, Deceased, Coroner’s Case, or Null. Day of Death may also be available via the Social Security Death Index or when manually entered by Geisinger staff. Contact Us to learn more about this feature in our Electronic Health Record.

Additional Actual Cost Data Fields
MedMining now offers actual cost data at the encounter, hospital, medication, physician, and procedure level. For example, a patient is seen in the Emergency Department after falling down a flight of steps in her home. The actual total encounter cost to Geisinger for services rendered was $1,025.37. The encounter level data available is as seen below:

Oncology Registry
MedMining is pleased to announce the much anticipated Oncology data offering. We are now able to provide detailed clinical and pathological data captured through Geisinger’s American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) approved registry. Data elements available include clinical and pathological stage, primary tumor size, grade, histology, laterality, regional lymph node examination, treatment, follow-up data, and much more. Pulmonary Function Test Data
MedMining is excited to unveil the unique offering of pulmonary function test values, such as FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, FEF 25-75%, and many more. With 500+ pulmonary function tests performed monthly, it is not hard to imagine the vast number of opportunities this data set can provide to pharmacoeconomic and health outcomes groups.
